The benefits of learning in nature are profound and far-reaching, offering a refreshing alternative to traditional classroom settings. From improved cognitive function to enhanced creativity, there are numerous advantages of embracing outdoor learning.
However, we also know that learning outside can be a challenge, whether that be due to the inclement weather or just lack of available space. That’s why at Kit for Kids we have a number of resources that can be used both indoors and outdoors. This ensures resources can be used in multiple spaces, increasing both their value and versatility.
In this blog we will go through our innovative multi-use products and highlight some of the benefits of having these resources in your setting.
Carpets
A number of our carpets now come with lightweight and waterproof indoor / outdoor backing, meaning they can be used on any surface, are easy to move between locations, and can be simply wiped clean after use outside.
Some of the benefits of using carpets outside would be to provide a clean, comfortable surface to sit on whilst engaging in outdoor activities that promote teamwork, communication, and social skills, but also to encourage play time outdoors, such as with our Small World road map sets. It cannot be undervalued how much regular exposure to natural light and fresh air can boost mood and reduce stress levels, contributing to a healthier, happier learning environment.

Soft Furniture
All of our soft furniture products can be used both indoors and outdoors thanks to their sturdy design and by using easy to clean materials. Many cushions and seating sets are made from thick water resistant PVC which ensures the products are durable but also easy to wipe clean when they do become dirty. Other items are either fully machine washable or have removable, washable covers for added convenience and hygiene.
Some of our larger items, such as the Natural World leaf seating, have special non-slip bases that are also hardwearing for use outdoors. Other smaller items, such as the small and large floor cushions, are a fantastic flexible resource for those days when spontaneity hits and you just want to immerse the children in an outdoor environment to foster their sense of wonder.
Having products that are fully flexible empowers teaching staff to embrace the natural environment where possible but still have comfortable and engaging learning spaces inside as well.
Soft Play
Our smaller soft play items like our Mirror Cube (SP1040) and our Getting Ready Cube (SP3202) are perfect to be used in different settings outdoors or indoors. Their small size makes them easy to move between spaces and share between groups. Equally their PVC construction is straight forward to keep clean for stress free play time.
Our other soft play items, such as our soft play sets, can also be used on different surfaces inside and out. Once again this versatility supports teaching staff to be creative and imaginative with their settings, and create one-of-a-kind learning environments.
Trolleys
One of the biggest challenges with flexible resources can be storage and transportation. Our smaller trolley range is perfect for taking resources outside, or for using them for temporary learning spaces indoors, such as reading corners or group activities in communal spaces.
All trolleys come with sturdy castors that can easily be used outside as well, and some of the castors are lockable so they can be safely used without the fear of the trolley moving on uneven surfaces.
